William P. (Bill) Meacham
Bill Meacham moved to Virginia in 1978, from North Carolina. Originally in the restaurant business, Bill became fascinated with the notion of professional business trade exchange and bartering and quickly shifted careers in January 1983.
Being enthralled with the concept of paying off debt with products and services, Bill spent endless hours communicating and educating Richmond business owners of the benefits of “barter”. He worked his way up to “partner” in the Richmond-based BancMarc and eventually bought that partner out in 2004. Four years later in 2008, he acquired The Barter Authority, in Virginia Beach and; thus, spread his local trade exchange into more opportunities and advantages for all participating trade members.
As Bill had been dealing with businesses’ main products and services; such as, dry cleaners, restaurants and printers, etc., he soon recognized “the calling” for the moving of unutilized products that are outside of the main bartering system. For example: a copier sitting in the corner of a dry cleaner not being used and, yet, in great working order. In July 2006, B-Trade was created within BancMarc.
B-Trade, which is dedicated to bartering businesses only, incited “A Business Owner’s Yard Sale”. Knowing that people were already aware of the concept of household yard sales, Bill had reassigned it for businesses. The more he saw, the more he learned that millions of dollars worth of products would never be used again; yet, were worth too much to throw away. Companies are now able to put a reasonable price on their unused products and sell them for trade dollars – making them more profitable than if they had been sold for cash. B-Trade products sit in closets, corners and warehouses. This initiative made available yet another avenue for companies to create trade dollars. BancMarc lists these items on their website (B-Trade) and sells them for trade dollars. Bill had recognized that there were products and inventory that were obsolete to companies, but were worth something to other “growing” companies . One person’s junk is another’s treasure.
With B-Trade came one problem, some items were products that the company would let go of so quickly, but they still needed cash and, thus, BizWaste was born.
Now, whether businesses can afford to trade it for trade dollars through BancMarc/B-Trade or whether they require the best deal for cash through BizWaste, both sides are covered.
Especially in today’s economy, almost all companies have products or inventory sitting on the side. B-Trade is a “Business Owner’s Yard Sale” for trade dollars to purchase other products through BancMarc. BizWaste was developed for the best deal offered for cash. The BizWaste Liquidation Specialists are dedicated to working with clients in order to turn unwanted or outgrown products into trade dollars -- in order to purchase other products – or into cash sales.
Today, Bill continues to pioneer the professional trade exchange concept and has written a book titled “Smarter Companies Barter”.
